Skala data sangatlah penting dalam statistika karena dengan mengetahui skala data, maka kita akan dapat menentukan metode apa yang tepat dalam analisis data.
Skala Data ada 4 yakni :
1. Nominal
Adalah data yang hanya digunakan untuk kategorisasi atau memberi nama saja untuk membedakan.
Contoh : jenis kelamin, warna baju dan sebagainya
2. Ordinal
Adalah data yang digunakan untuk membedakan, serta sudah dapat digunakan untuk menunjukkan tingkatan
Contoh : tingkatan sekolah (SD, SMP, SMA, Strata 1, Strata2, Strata3)
3. Skala Interval
Adalah data yang dapat digunakan untuk membedakan, menunjukkan tingkatan, mempunyai jarak/interval yang sudah pasti, tetapi belum memiliki nilai nol yang mutlak.
Contoh : Temperatur udara suhu nol derajat celcius, 32 derajat Fahrenheit dsb.
4. Skala Rasio
Adalah data yang dapat digunakan untuk membedakan, menunjukkan tingkatan, mempunyai jarak/interval yang sudah pasti, dan memiliki nilai nol yang mutlak.
Contoh : Jumlah karyawan di PT. XYZ adalah 233 orang. Si A hari ini ke kampus tidak membawa uang (uang yang dibawa si A ke kampus =0)
