Statistika merupakan suatu ilmu yang mempelajari tata cara pengumpulan data, pengolahan data, penyajian data, analisis data, dan pengambilan keputusan berdasarkan data.

Statistik merupakan karakteristik yang diukur  dari sampel. Karakteristik di sini berupa rata-rata, varians atau standart deviasi, proporsi. Misal  : rata-rata usia penduduk di Surabaya, Malang dan Gresik
